NEC MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Anton Frondelius, Wagner
Sr., Munkedal, Sweden/The Gunnery
Frondelius, a two-time All-NEC honoree, won the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invitational hosted by Lafayette over the weekend, firing a one-under 143, shooting rounds of 70 and 73. Beating out 107 other golfers, Frondelius took home in the title after defeating Villanova’s Lucas Trim and UConn’s Eric Dietrich in a three-way playoff. His two-under 70 in the first round tied for the second-best 18-hole score at the event. Wagner finished 10th in the 19-team field.
NEC WOMEN’S CO-GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
Ellen Nighbor, Sacred Heart
Sr., Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West
Nighbor helped lead the Pioneers to their second team title this spring after finishing tied for second at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by Wagner. She finished one stroke off the pace, shooting a seven-over 151 (75-76). Nighbor, one of three SHU competitors to finish in the top-five, was a two-time NEC Player of the Month back in the fall as well as the 2015-16 NEC Player of the Year.
Ella Williams, Central Connecticut
Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Western Canada
Williams tied for second place at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by Wagner at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Staten Island. She shot a 77 in the opening round, and her 74 in the second round was the third-lowest score of the day. Williams finished with a seven-over 151 as the Blue Devils secured a fourth place finish in the 10-team field.
NEC PRIME PERFORMERS
Bryant senior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, RI/South Kingstown) tied for fifth at the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invitational, shooting a three-over 147 (74-73).
Sacred Heart junior Abigail Hood (Gloucester, MA/Rockport) finished just two strokes behind the winner, taking fourth at the Seahawk Invitational over the weekend. She carded an eight-over 152 (77-75).
NEC HEADLINES
LIU Brooklyn freshman Carolina Ronchel (Huelva, Spain/Huelva) finished seventh at the Seahawk Invitational, shooting a ten-over 154 (80-74). It marked her fifth consecutive top-10 finish.
Saint Francis U sophomore Kelsey Patterson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) helped boost the Red Flash to a fifth place finish at the Seahawk Invitational. She moved up six spots on the final day to finish 11th overall with a 12-over 156 (79-77).
FDU senior U Minn Woon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/Bolles School (FL)) tied for 16th at the Manor Intercollegiate, shooting a four-over 220 (73-71-76).
Saint Francis U juniors Austin Renz (Danville, PA/Danville) and Brandon Mihalo (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Holy Names Catholic) tied for 22nd at the Manor Intercollegiate. Both shot a five-over par 221 over the three rounds.
