Geneva, OH -- Records were broken in every swimming event on a night that also saw Howard pad its lead on day three of the 2023 NEC Men's Swimming & Diving Championhips at Spire Institute.

Stacking 451 points, the Bison increased its advantage to 71 points over LIU (380) after the evening session in Geneva, OH. St. Francis Brooklyn (313) and Wagner (295) rounded out the team scoring.

The evening started off with a bang after the top three finishers each broke the previous meet record in the 400 IM. Current meet record holder Dani Chocano Fernandez smashed his own mark and swam a 3:57.17 to stand tallest on the podium. Taking silver was Howard's Luke-Kennedy Thompson, clocking in at 3:57.43, followed by third place finisher Russell Gavino from Wagner with a time of 4:01.13. All three swimmers lowered the previous record.

The 100 yard butterfly was broken twice on the day. Mark-Anthony Beckles lowered his own meet record from last year's NEC Championship (48.84) this morning during the prelims, touching the wall in 48.69. With even more on the line, he swam a 48.33 in the finals to shave off 0.36 seconds from this morning. LIU's Alejandro Pascual Del Cid swam a 48.65 for a silver finish, followed by Arion Solomon from Howard in a 36-point event for the Bison.

In the 200 yard freestyle, Toni Dragoja from St. Francis Brooklyn set a meet and new school record after touching in 1:36.77. In second place was Emilio Garcia from LIU (1:38.95) and Wagner's Kaan Nalcaci took third (1:39.20).

From the one-meter diving platform, Howard's Jordan Walker added 20 points to the Bison team score after generating 236.25 points over six dives on the evening. The runner-up was St. Francis Brooklyn's Matthew Berstein with a cumulative score of 207.20. Rounding out the top three was Wagner's Carter Green with 194.00 points.

The night concluded with Howard setting two records in the 200 freestyle relay. Miles Simon (19.42), Spencer Miles (20.21), Arion Solomon (20.35) and Mark-Anthony Beckles (20.16) broke the meet record after swimming a 1:20.14 for a first place finish. Miles Simon also set the 50 freestyle record as the leadoff leg with a blistering 19.42 showing. St. Francis Brooklyn took silver in 1:20.97 via the foursome of Daniel Matheus Santos (20.83), Luka Dmitrovic (20.43), Maurice Grabowski (19.91) and Toni Dragoja (19.80). To complete the top three, Alejandro Pascual Del Cid (20.23), Drew Ladner (20.62), Porter LeVasseur (20.61)  and Emilio Garcia (20.22) clocked 1:23.35 for LIU.

The NEC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will resume on Friday morning at 10:00 am with the 200 fly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 400 medley relay. Finals begin at 6:00 pm.
