NEC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Savannah Nash, Saint Francis U
Outfield, Junior, Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee
Last Week’s Stats: .500 AVG (5-for-10), .900 SLG%, .545 OB%, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2-2 ST-ATT
Against some stiff competition, junior Savannah Nash put up some impressive numbers at the plate for defending NEC champion Saint Francis U this past weekend. The two-time All-NEC star produced a .500/.545/.900 slash line during a four-game stretch that featured games against Toledo, East Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia at the Gamecock Invitational. A native of Mechanicsville, VA, Nash drove in her first two runs of the year on a home run against East Carolina on Saturday. It marked the first long ball by an NEC player this season. The outfielder tacked on another extra-base hit in the Red Flash’s nightcap against host South Carolina with a two-bagger. With five NEC squads taking the field during opening weekend, Nash registered league-leading numbers in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, stolen bases (2), runs (2) and homers (1). This is her second career NEC Player of the Week honor.

Sciarretto posted a 2.96 ERA in four appearances and one start to help lead Stonehill to a 3-2 record at the Paladin Invitational, which was hosted by Furman in Greenville, SC. In her lone start of the weekend against UT Martin on Saturday, the sophomore righty allowed just one earned run and two hits in 6.1 innings of work to lead the Skyhawks to the 2-1 victory and their second win of the season. In addition, the Bristol, CT product fanned two batters in the triumph. This is Sciarretto’s first-ever weekly award from the NEC.
NEC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
AB Cipalla, Saint Francis U
Catcher/Outfield, Freshman, Erie, PA/Harbor Creek
Last Week’s Stats: .500 AVG (4-for-8), .700 SLG%, .500 OB%, 2 2B, 1 HBP
Cipalla had a hot bat in her collegiate debut at the Gamecock Invitational. The rookie catcher/outfielder went 5-for-10 at the plate and registered at least one hit in her first three games against Toledo, East Carolina and South Carolina. Earning the start as the designated player in her first-ever college game against the Rockets on Friday, Cipalla, who hails from Erie, PA, launched a double in her first career at-bat in the second inning. That hit also marked the first of Saint Francis U’s young season. She went on to finish that outing a perfect 2-for-2 in the batter’s box. The next day against the Pirates, Cipalla made it doubles in back-to-back games after she went 2-for-3. Cipalla currently ranks second in the NEC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and OPS.
